Ball Pressure Test With Oven

The Ball Pressure Test is a critical evaluation method specified in multiple international standards, including BIS, UL, CSA, VDE, BSI, DIN, and IEC. It determines the resistance of insulating materials to elevated operating temperatures, ensuring compliance with safety regulations.
This test is widely used for inspecting insulation materials in:
- Electrical wiring accessories
- Electrical appliances
- Luminaires
- Motors & connectors
- Non-metallic components exposed to high temperatures
The test ensures that external insulating materials do not degrade under high temperatures, preventing failures that could compromise appliance safety.
Test Procedure:
- The sample is placed on a platform.
- The ball pressure apparatus is positioned on top of the sample.
- The entire setup is placed in an oven, maintained at a predefined temperature for a specified duration.
- After the test period, the sample and ball pressure apparatus are removed and allowed to cool.
- The depression created by the steel ball is measured.
- The sample complies with the standards if the impression’s diameter remains within the specified limit.
